Some of our favorite things about playing live are meeting good folks...and hearing their questions. Some of them are asked so often we figured it'd be fun to create a Frequently Asked Questions Page for folks who found out about us online through our videos (or were just too shy to ask!). Hope you enjoy! And have a few laughs!
FAQ #1: IS MARK A MINISTER?
FAQ #2: IS "ONE BALL DADDY" A TRUE STORY?
Kinda. Sorta. Not Really.
But, more of it is true than untrue!
It's Mark's song. It's Mark's story. Mark is writing this.
Yes, I've been hospitalized due to a motorcycle accident.
Yes, I've hit furry critters on the road with a motorcycle. I've hit feathered critters too. One night, a deer popped out of a ditch and hit me. I laid the bike down and slid for awhile. I learned to cheer for hunters during deer season.
I've had surgery.
But please know this...if it hadn't been for all of the true things that happened to me in the past few decades, this song would've never been written.
FAQ #3: HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE BAND'S NAME?
Mark wanted the band's name to reflect how we started...doing 50s based rock 'n' roll in prison ministry. But he also wanted it to be fun. He loves the "Road Warrior" movie...particularly the scene where Lord Humongous is introduced as "The Ayatollah of Rock 'n Rolla!" Mark always chuckled at that part. So he tinkered around with that until "The Holy Rocka Rollaz!" popped into his head. He's stuck with it since! Even after several folks early on told him the name was horrible and that it was hurting the band. He's heard from people, "We'll never hire a religious group like you." One Minneapolis club even refused to publish the name correctly in the local papers for a show. Ha! For whatever reason(s), folks are rolling with it now that the band is more established.
FAQ #4: WHERE'S PAUL?
Our founding member/bassist Paul Jongeward told us in late 2013 that his job and family demands needed his full-time attention. And we are SO HAPPY for him! Paul married a beautiful woman in the summer of 2013 and is quite a successful Vice President at the prestigious Minneapolis ad agency Morsekode. He's doing well! But whenever he's in the audience at a Rollaz show, we love it when he pops up on stage to rock a few numbers with us!
